Although the formal deeds do not exist, evidence in the fabric of the building suggests the original Cottage dates back to circa 1740, if not before. The canal (running alongside Peel Farm) was built in 1792 and it is known that at this time the property operated as a farm. The farm Cottage was transformed in the 1800's (1800 - 1850) into a village Inn, with the addition of a coal wharf canalside, as well as the main building being extended. |

The Peel Arms as it was known was owned by John Sims of Lichfield Brewery and was sold to Ind Coope in 1931, who then closed and de-licensed it due to three other pubs in Whittington Village. Possibly removing some of the competition. The property once again became a working farm. Know as 'Bridge Farm' for a brief time, later reverting back to Peel Farm as it is still known today. It ceased to be a working farm in the mid 1980’s and now accommodates a Bed and Breakfast Farmhouse, a Smithy, and Farriers Forge. The whole property continues to be well maintained and is still developing. |
